STUDIO Wooden Panels are a streamlined counterpart to our Museum Grade range, engineered to deliver warp-free performance at a more accessible price point.
 
Materials
They use the same PEFC and FSC-certified poplar face and birch plywood subframe as our Museum Grade panels. The poplar provides a lightweight, fine-grained, smooth surface with a pale ivory tone, while the birch subframe is selected for its high strength and density, offering excellent durability and resistance to damage.
 
Warp-Free Subframe Design
The key difference between Museum Grade and STUDIO panels is the subframe system. Our STUDIO design uses a compact aluminium box section that is discretely incorporated into the reverse of each constructed panel. This engineered support is designed to resist twisting and warping over time.

The strength of the aluminium negates the incorporation of several crossbars therefore greatly reducing the overall weight of each panel without compromising on stability or strength. Our STUDIO Wooden Panels are the lightest wooden panels that we fabricate.
 
Laser Welding Technology
Artist Surfaces is the only painting panel fabricator in the world to utilise laser welding in its fabrication process. Laser welding allows us to fuse the aluminium subframes without burning the attached wood.

This approach reduces the system to its most efficient structural form, fewer parts, fewer failure points, and a welded subframe that behaves as a single engineered unit. The result is a highly stable, purpose-built solution for warp-free painting panels.
 
Bonding, Flatness, and Finish
Adhesion and flatness are controlled through a hydraulic cold-press process using a D4 waterproof PVA adhesive, with panels cured under consistent pressure for 24 hours to achieve optimal bonding and long-term stability. Precision cutting with industrial workshop equipment ensures clean edges and accurate, repeatable dimensions across all formats. Each panel is then sanded and finished by our technicians to the highest standard, ensuring they meet museum grade quality throughout.
 
Optional Services
Optional preparation services are available, including Golden GAC 100 sealing and gesso. Black gesso priming is available upon request.
