The ÉTUDE Stretched Wooden Panels are designed for artists seeking handcrafted high-quality panels made with museum grade materials at an accessible price point.
Named after the French étude—meaning “study”—these panels are intended for artists refining technique, testing compositions, and exploring new ideas without compromising on material quality.
Each panel is handmade using the same materials as our museum grade range: PEFC and FSC-certified poplar plywood for the painting surface and birch plywood for the subframe. This construction provides a lightweight yet structurally robust panel with excellent dimensional stability, particularly suited to small-scale works and studies.
We offer both Belgian fine linen and 10oz cotton canvas, each adhered directly to the wooden panel using a high-performance D4 PVA adhesive. This waterproof, non-reactivating glue forms a permanent bond between the fabric and substrate, preventing lifting, bubbling, or movement over time while maintaining surface integrity.
All stretching is carried out by skilled technicians to ensure even tension and a smooth, homogeneous surface.
Priming
Our Economy Gesso Priming service provides a practical, ready-to-paint surface while maintaining the integrity of the ÉTUDE panel beneath. A Golden Acrylic gesso is applied to create a consistent, lightly absorbent ground that promotes strong paint adhesion and an even working surface.
This option is a cost-effective and ideal solution for artists working in acrylic or oil who require a dependable primed surface without undertaking the preparation process themselves.
